Today “Marabda-kartsakhi Railway” LLC has put the electric substation into test operation at Tskhra Dzma railway station. According to the company this is a huge step forward to the successful implementation of Georgian section of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars new railroad line project. The above substation is manufactured by a world-famous Swiss company “Secheron”, using advanced technologies and it completely complies with European standards being unique in the region.
“We emphasize the fact that our company, together with Azerbaijan and Turkish partners, is striving to build a new international and exemplary railroad of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars having international importance and equipped with only the best and advanced technologies”, -says Mr. Nikoloz Tsiklauri, deputy director of the Company.
From today “Tskhra Dzma” substation at the railway station will serve Marabda-Tetritskaro section of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad project creating the possibility of cargo transportation through this section using electric locos which are much rapid, safe and effective than diesel locos and thus facilitate the acceleration of railway construction process and considerably decrease freight traffic expenses.
At the meeting the company authorities also talked about future plans and perspectives of the company and declared that the works are progressing at every stage of the project. Commission of seven equally equipped new substations is planned within the project, giving possibility to transfer electric rolling stock over the whole railway section.
Intensive construction works are also processing on the Georgian section of 4.4 km railway tunnel connecting Georgia with Turkey. Work front of the tunnel is simultaneously open from Turkish, as well as from Georgian side.
“Upon completion of the tunnel construction the Georgian section of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars new railroad line project will be ready for operation and create possibility of railway traffic though our railroad in the direction of neighbor countries, as well as facilitate transcontinental freight traffic due to what Georgia will become part of global network of transport system and the “Iron silk road” being the brilliant plan will turn into the shortest and real way linking the continents of Asia and Europe”, -says Nikoloz Tsiklauri.
