Mr. Oleg Bichiashvili, the director of “Marabda-Kartsakhi Railway” LLC surveyed the works  progressing within the framework of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad line. He started the survey from Marabda  and arrived at Tetritskaro on a diesel locomotive. The director also examined the working stroke in Chivchavi.

The director is satisfied with the progress of the project and says , that 30 km section of Marabda-Tetritskaro will be completed by late 2013.  As for the completion of the whole project, it will be possible by 2015 according to Mr. Bichiashvili.

“The project includes several stages. The first stage was Marabda-Tetritskaro, taking over of which will incredibly facilitate the working process and increase productivity. The information that this project is terminated is false. The works are progressing at accelerated pace. After completion the project will be affiliated with the Georgian Railway and become one of the projects of TRASECA. At the first stage cargo turnover in both directions will be 5 m tones with the perspective of reaching 15-20 m tones”- says Bichiashvili.

According to him, Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad presumably will not serve for transition of loads from Afghanistan, because  the transition process is scheduled in 2014 while the railroad cannot be brought into operation till 2015.
