The Iron Silk Road project, being implemented by Marabda-Kartsakhi Railway LLC, was named among top 100 global projects of the world at Global Infrastructure Leadership Forum held in New-York in January, 2011.

Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway was estimated as one of the world’s strategic projects and listed among top 100 most significant global projects by world experts.

Georgia was honored to present the Iron Silk Road project at New-York Forum. Bidzina Bregadze, the director of Marabda-Kartsakhi Railway LLC presented detailed and vast information about the project to the members of the Forum.

The project aims at searching the shortest possible alternative routes linking the rest of the world with the rapidly growing Asian markets, diversification of communication, spreading of technologies and steady flow of energy resources.

The scope of the new Silk Road already covers the operation of Traceca, Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum Gas Pipeline, which have significantly changed economical reality in Caspian-Black Sea region, created new opportunities for development and strengthened energetic security not only in these regions, but also in European countries.

Today Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad mainline, rightfully named as the “Iron Silk Road”, is added to the above-mentioned projects. This project links China and Central Asian countries with Europe and vs.

The annual Global Infrastructure Leadership Forum is a marketplace for strategic projects. The forum focuses on selection of 100 best infrastructure projects. Projects are selected annually, during nine months through analysis and consultation with Forum Advisory Board and experts from the public and private sectors.
